The Picts were war like tribes who inhabited Scotland about 2000 years ago. When the Romans tried to invade the Highlands they had to battle with fierce, painted warriors that they named “Picti”.

They named them this because of their painted or tattooed bodies. The first Scot named in history is Calgacus who was the leader of an army of Picts. The Romans defeated his army but they were unable to conquer Pictland and retreated.

On the 28th of September 2004 an archaeologist came called Katie. She had two friends with her called John and Caroline. John is an artist. They took us to Pict burial grounds. There was a Wades road close by.

The Picts burial grounds are level with a ring round the edge. There were about 6 or 7. Later when we came back John the artist took a leaf print. It came out really well.
