One night in a burial ground on Uig the Brahan Seer’s mother saw the dead rise and wander about. She put her staff down in a grave in order to prevent one lady from getting back in to it. And that lady pleaded her to let her get back in. She said that if she would let her get back in her coffin to rest, she would tell her where a stone was. Not just any stone, but a stone that would help her son see into the future.

When Brahan Seer grew up, he was able to predict all sorts of things with it. He became famous as a person with ‘second sight’. But one day Isabella, the wife of the Earl of Seaforth, came to him and said “Ok, I know you can see into the future, so tell me what my husband is up to in Paris”,

“He is well,”is all he replied. But Isabella knew that the Brahan Seer was lying and tried to bribe him so that he would tell her what she wanted to know. Finally he said “I know that I have to tell the truth, and your husband is flirting with a French lady while he has been in Paris,” “Lies!!” she shouted back at him. “You shall be executed and never speak of bad news again!” .

On her command he was thrown into a barrel of burning tar and left to die. But before Brahan Seer was executed, he threw the stone into the sea and said that it would appear in a fish’s stomach in the future.
